Dear Sir/Mdm,
My name is Nah Teck Lee Andrew, S7639070C. I wish to lodge a complaint of Prudential Assurance Company .Singapore. Last year I signed up a Pru shield plan with this Miss Chew on 20 Aug 2007.
Bearing in mind that I was already covered with AIA shield since 2005.
Events
On 11 Sep 07, I visited Dr(CPT) John Ng my camp MO in Changi Airbase because I had slight blur vision for my sight. Dr Ng could not diagnosis what was wrong with me and thus referred me to Changi hospital for check up.
On 24 Sep 2007, I was diagnosed with bilateral cataract by Changi hospital. Doctor advised me not to operate my eyes as I was too young then. As I lived in bishan I then requested to do the half yearly appointment at Tan Hock Seng hospital instead as it was nearer to my place.
In March 08, My vision was worsening so I went for check up at Tan Hock Seng Hospital. Doctor then advised me to do operation on my right eye as it was required.
28 May 08, I went for my operation to remove the cataract for my right eye. The operation cost was $3000.
I proceed to do my claim but was rejected by Prudential. They claimed that I did not declare that I had a pre-existing condition. As you can see when I signed the plan with the agent. I was not diagnosis with cataract by Dr NG. He is the not eye specialist so how was i to know whether I have cataract also?? Only on 24 Sep then the doctor at Changi checked and says I have it. Am I supposed to know what to do? Come on I am not an agent correct??!! I have this weird thing I feel very sad already so still what do you want me to do?
I am disappointed with this agent as she knew I already had AIA Shield yet she still advised me that it was fine to switch the coverage. She has not gone through the health questions with me, which is required correct?
On the day the doctors advise me to operate soon. . Ask whether I have insurance coverage. Immediately I called Miss Chew to ask whether can I do the operation and she said YES. At the point of time, I also realised that she has resigned from Prudential and was going to take M8. I felt shocked as she once tried to sell me an investment fund when she don’t have the license to do so. At that time I was pitched China India fund. Initially I invested $50k.
I then called prudential to do an investigation. I received letter from Prudential on 15 OCT 08 stating that in my application form that I stated that I do not have any medi-insurance plan, which is a LIE because I was covered by AIA since 2005. I remembered clearly I told her I was covered by AIA. How can I with airforce with 10 years not have any insurance plans? The minimum is since I am in air-force. How can I not be covered by AVIVA which is provided by MINDEF.
Next, the investigation states that under health details of life to be assured that there was no declaration of pre-existing condition. The agent has not gone through the question health question with me at all! And what pre-existing condition was I known to have at that point of time?
Next is why she can sell me unit trust when she don’t have the relevant paper required to sell? The investigation report states it is instead ILP not unit trust? So she can sell me ah?? What is this meaning?
I am deeply disappointed as I know that it not advisable to ask customer to do a switching in insurance. Now, when my left eye requires operation in future it is excluded from the pru-shield. I have reluctantly re-signed the new policy that prudential is offering me coverage but no longer for cataract. This means I have to bear the medical costs myself. This is very cruel and under handed as I was MIS-sold!! If my future check up is fine till I am 50 years old when the doctor say I need to operate then how much of medical cost am I supposed to incurred then?
If I keep quiet then I have admitted that I had lied and have no integrity This means I am trying to cheat an insurance company. This is not fair to me as the agent knowing that I was covered by AIA yet still sold me the plan. And she did not go through the health question portion with me as well.
I feel Prudential investigation is covering up for the agent. I have served the Air-force for 10 years and have good conduct certification. I do not have any criminal records as well. My integrity is at stake. I believed if you want me to ask the doctor as witness I can go find the doctor for their testimonial. Bearing in mind I was covered by AIA since 2005.(I have records to prove). I am not so bastard as to want to cheat prudential.
1 more thing I should say is that Miss chew called me up once before the investigation and she told me that I am also covered basically by medi save so for my next operation I use just use a lower class of operation instead. This is very insulting! I know only $3k, but I do not earn so much as an insurance agent for those who can be in the papers like million dollar round table and so on. $3k to me is a lot. My contact number is 90705511.
Regards
Andrew Nah
